Making the Lampshades Learn about the Materials used and the process of making the Lampshades. |

Making Lampshades One part of Making the Lampshades is making the Lampshade Frame with its backing, except for the designs that go on a self adhesive shade. Another part is printing the original Photograph onto fine cotton fabric panels, cutting the panels and adhering them to the backing of the shade. Depending on the size of the shade three to five panels go on the shade. The last part is wire wrapping and decorating. Wire Wrap is adhered over the top and bottom wire of the frame and Soutache ribbons are glued over the vertical seams between the panels and around the top and bottom of the shade. |

Lampshade Materials All Lampshades are made with 100% fine cotton inkjet fabric and fade resistant pigment inks deliver exceptional color and image durability. Self-adhesive Lampshades with clip tops are used for medium round empire Shades as well as for Mini Lampshades. Drum and Cylinder Lampshades are made with wire rings and Square Shades with Metal Frames, all of which have washer tops and are backed with styrene, a sturdy material traditionally used for hardback lampshades. For a wire wrap a cotton blend bias tape is applied and for decoration a cotton silk blend Soutache. |

Care suggestions: As with any fine fabric, sunlight might eventually fade it. To prevent fading and make your fabric lampshade last for years to come display it where there is minimal direct sunlight; plus choose lower wattage bulbs such as 25, 40 or max. 60 for larger lampshades. Dust lamp shade with whiskbroom or carefully vacuum with a soft brush. Spot clean with a slightly damp cloth. Clean inside of the shade with damp cloth. |
